Parks and Recreation earns water conservation award

ParksWaterAwardThe Houston Parks and Recreation Department received the Water Innovation Strategies of Excellence (WISE) award for planning and policy from the Houston-Galveston Area Council.

As part of their efforts to improve water quality and conserve the environment, HPARD has plans to restore native plants to 70 Houston parks along the city's bayous, covering over 1,000 acres with vegetation that will trap water during flood events, remove sediments and pollutants from rainwater, and prevent erosion.
