Three HPD Officers named Hispanic Officer of the Year

Acting Houston Police Chief Martha I. Montalvo, Assistant Chief Charlie Vazquez, President of the Hispanic Officer of the Year Committee, the Hispanic Officer of the Year Committee, Inc., HPD command staff and other community leaders honored three HPD officers chosen as "Hispanic Officer of the Year" during a luncheon at the Whitehall Houston Hotel on Friday, Oct. 21.  

Sergeants R. Cruz (Auto Theft Division) and H. Garza (Tactical Operations Division) and Officer C. Calderon (Midwest Patrol Division) were named Hispanic Officer of the Year.   Two HPD officers, J. Lucero (Employee Services Division) and A. Sierra (Central Patrol Division) were awarded scholarships to use in furtherance of their education at a college or university of their choice.  

The 36th annual Houston Hispanic Police Officer of the Year luncheon recognizes outstanding efforts of HPD officers who go above and beyond their duties. This event is sponsored by the Greater Houston Retailers Cooperative Association, Inc., University of Houston-Downtown, CIGNA Health & Life Insurance Company, McDonald's Operators Association of Greater Houston, Houston Police Officers' Union, H-E-B, Higginbotham Community Fund of the Community Foundation of North Texas, Yellow Cab, Superbag Operating, LTD. and Bayside Printing.
