As a non-profit and non-partisan organization that promotes the desire, right and knowledge for everyone to take part in the voting process, the League of Women Voters of Houston play a crucial role in our local community regarding educating the community about voting rights.
LWV Houston President Annie Johnson Benefield took a moment to express her appreciation to the mayor’s office for the support throughout the year. Here is what she wrote:
Dear honorable Mayor Turner,
As president of the League of Women Voters of Houston, I am writing to express our sincere appreciation for the assistance, guidance, support and sponsorship your office lent to the activities the League sponsored this year, beginning with the Repast Luncheon in May. As a civic leader, I would be remiss in my duties if I did not use this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you.
The League is deeply honored to have the support of your administration when speaking up for voting rights in varied venues. A citizen’s right to vote is not a partisan issue because every citizen deserves the right to actively participate in the political process irrespective of zip code.
Your office lent tremendous support to the recent Get Out to Vote Rally held at Emancipation Park on Oct. 22, 2022. Bill Kelly, Desmond Taylor and Alexa Aragonez were critical in transforming the League idea of getting citizens excited about early voting into a full-blown reality in record time. The level of energy focused on assisting the League in this endeavor was gallant.
Thanks so very much to you and your office for always supporting the League’s civic engagement’s effort.
Sincerely,
Annie Johnson-Benefield,
President, LWVHouston
