Houston landscaping business official Jake Parker wrote to the Mayor’s Office to express gratitude after staff at the Houston Permitting Center saved him from losing a day of work by updating a permit he needed.
Parker’s letter said his business, Vista Landscape Services, was preparing for an irrigation job recently when he realized the permit he needed was expired.
He knew just who to call. Parker wrote: "Today, Maria Martinez saved me. I was pulling a permit for an irrigation job to start (the next day). Crew and material were ready. Found out I never renewed my irrigator’s license with the city. It expired two weeks ago. Maria answered the phone. Told her my situation. She had me email all required documents to her.
“Then she stayed on the phone with me until she was sure everything was correct and complete. I had my registration complete and pulled my permit within 15 minutes.
“Saved my schedule. Saved me money for a lost crew day. Saved my blood pressure,” he wrote. Parker added: “All the ladies are always friendly and helpful when I go there. Always. … I can go in there absolutely clueless, and one of them will babysit me until the problem is fixed. There are no better people to work with than the women in the Plumbing Permit Department. Period.”
