Henry de la Garza wrote to Mayor Sylvester Turner to commend HPD Officer Matt Barnette, his K9 and other officers on a recent aprehension of burglars operating in the Huntleigh subdivision.
HPD Officer Robert Taylor reported the following events to Huntleigh neighbors: On Monday March 4, 2019, at 1 40p m, Tanglewood Patrol received a call regarding two males going door to door in the 900 block of Briar Ridge The caller advised that the two males were acting very suspicious. The caller described the suspect s vehicle as being a dark colored Ford SUV bearing paper plates Officers arrived in the area and spotted the vehicle as it was leaving the area. The vehicle was occupied by the two described males When the suspects saw the officers, they attempted to evade arrest by fleeing in their vehicle. The Tanglewood officers gave pursuit and chased she males for approximately a mile and a half to where jumped out on foot in the 300 block of Westminster; in the Huntleigh subdivision. One of the suspects was immediately arrested in the backyard of a residence, the other continued to flee on foot. One of our officers, Officer Matt Barnette and his K9, tracked the suspect along the bayou in an easterly direction to where he entered the neighborhood off of W. Friar Tuck. The suspect was spotted as he attempted to jump into a UPS delivery truck where he was then taken into custody
"According to Officer Taylor, these two suspects are believed to be responsible for several burglaries in the Briargrove subdivision as well as a few in Tanglewood," de la Gara wrote. "Thanks to Officer Matt Bamette, his K9 and fellow police officers the safety and security of our neighborhood and residents was protected when danger presented itself."
