Courtney P. Merilatt, principal of the Garfield Elementary School in Pearland, wrote to Mayor Sylvester Turner to share a story about community policework in action. Here's what she had to say:
"On Feb. 4, our Community PAL Officer, Officer Anthony Triplett was on his way to our campus to discuss the after school program he is developing for our students. As he pulled in to our parking lot, a woman approached Officer Triplett. She was running from the Berkshire Apartments, which are directly across from our campus. She reported a man with a gun acting erratically in the apartment office. Officer Triplett kept the gunman contained at the apartment office area by pulling his vehicle around and literally put himself between the gunman and our elementary school. He held this position for approximately five minutes until other units arrived. With the help of his brave actions. we were able to keep our students safe," she wrote.
"We are extremely pleased with the PAL Program and Officer Triplett. He has gone above and beyond to make a positive impact with our students and community Thank you for supporting this program," she wrote.
