MOVMA, Houston veterans chamber team up to support veteran businesses

The Mayor’s Office of Veterans and Military Affairs is joining forces with the Houston Regional Veterans Chamber of Commerce to give a boost to veteran-owned businesses in Greater Houston.

MOVMA and HRVCC are working together to help veterans’ businesses thrive by giving a boost to the 2022 Veteran Business Expo Sept. 30 at the Houston Community College West Loop Campus.

In advance of the Veteran Business Expo, MOVMA and HRVCC will tout the event and encourage people to support veterans’ businesses at a Sept. 15 joint press conference at City Hall.

The Sept. 30 Expo is the first time MOVMA and HRVCC will have collaborated to showcase local veteran-owned businesses, MOVMA liaison LaShondra Jones said. The goal is to highlight entrepreneurs and business owners who served in the military, but it also contributes to Houston’s booming economy.

“Identifying as a veteran business owner allows them to qualify for certain federal, state and private funded grants,” she said. “It also allows them to compete for certain contracts and sub-contracts within the Houston community.”

Jones also said veterans who attend the Expo can attend breakout sessions on a variety of topics, and food trucks owned and operated by veteran restaurant business owners will be onsite serving from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
