The City of Houston’s Housing and Community Development Department celebrated the 30th anniversary of the department's inception on July 12, 2019. HCDD employees gathered for the recitation of an official proclamation, a retrospective video and refreshments. The department marked the occasion by releasing its first ever annual report, a notable show of commitment to service and transparency.
The Housing and Community Development Department provides leadership and financing to make affordable homes and neighborhood revitalization happen. HCDD is committed to creating safe, affordable homes in communities where people can thrive. The department invests in neighborhood parks, multifamily communities and economic development, provides first-time homebuyer assistance and funds to serve the homeless, elderly and disabled.
HCDD also supports economic development programs to encourage reinvestment in economically distressed neighborhoods, promote job creation and retention, and foster business development in low- to moderate- income areas.
