The City of Houston Wellness Program is award winning. In 2015, the program has added the following awards to a growing list of recognitions:
Houston Business Journal's Healthiest Employers
The City of Houston’s wellness program landed in the top five of the Houston Business Journal's Houston Healthiest Employer Awards for the third year in a row. The City of Houston earned the No. 3 spot in the Large Employer Category.
The Houston Business Journal’s Healthiest Employers ranking spotlights companies that encourage healthy living among their employees. Each company that applies for the award is ranked based on six categories:
- Culture and leadership commitment
- Foundational components
- Strategic planning
- Communication and marketing
- Programming and interventions
- Reporting and analysis
WELCOA “Well Workplace” Gold Designation
The City of Houston's Wellness team earned the gold designation "Well Workplace" awrd from The Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA). The “Well Workplace” award is designated for organizations that fully embrace their responsibility for maximizing health and wellbeing of its employees. An organization that wins a “Well Workplace” designation is one that is committed to wellness as part of its overall business strategy. Cigna Well-Being Award
Cigna awarded the City of Houston Wellness Program the Cigna Well-Being Award, which is available to Cigna clients. Applicants submitted several essays and short-answer questions regarding their organization’s wellness program, such as types of wellness programs offered (biometric screenings and health assessments, fitness classes, chronic disease management programs and more) and overall wellness program participation rates and results. The City of Houston won the award in the government sector for 2015.
Houston Business Coalition on Health Paragon Award
The Houston Business Coalition on Health Paragon Award is awarded to organizations based on their wellness program comprehensiveness and success. The City of Houston won the award in the large employer (greater than 5,000 employees) category.
American Heart Association (AHA) Fit Friendly Gold Award
Approximately 19 of the City of Houston’s 26 departments have been designated “Gold” in AHA’s Fit Friendly recognition program. Gold status is awarded to organizations that offer employees physical activity support, increase healthy eating options at work and promote a wellness culture.
