Kelsey-Seybold and City partner to fight flu season

Since August, there has been upward tick of flu cases in Houston, according to the Houston Health Department. While Houston’s flu peak is usually seen in December or January, it seems this year’s flu season got off to an early start.

To reduce employees’ risk of contracting flu at work, the Wellness Team has once again partnered with Kelsey-Seybold to host onsite flu clinics.

“It is critical that city employees receive their flu shot because it can reduce potential hospitalization, the risk and severity of flu-related illnesses, and even death,” said Franco Minor, Director of Corporate, Executive & Wellness Programs at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.

“As a valued partner to the City of Houston, it is Kelsey-Seybold’s honor to ensure that we do our part to help stop the spread of influenza by offering an onsite flu clinic option that is accessible to city employees.”

Onsite flu clinics kicked off in October, with scheduled clinics taking place at various City of Houston facilities. Employees enrolled in an Open Access Plan, Consumer Driven Health Plan, or Limited Plan – Kelsey-Seybold Network can receive free flu onsite shots. Members in the Limited Plan – Village MD and Renaissance Network must make nurse-only appointments at their physician’s office to receive a flu shot.

"Kelsey-Seybold’s goal is to be a one-stop shop for the City of Houston’s healthcare needs. We know that flu season is prominent every year, so to help prevent the spread of the flu, the Kelsey-Seybold Wellness team brings an onsite flu clinic service to the City of Houston employees yearly,” Minor said. “We want to make this process, to help keep them healthy, as convenient as possible for city employees due to their busy work schedule.”

Onsite flu clinics will run through December. To find an upcoming clinic visit
