The The Arc of Greater Houston honored the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and Director Maria Town with the Arc’s Achievement Award at the organization's Boot Scootin BBQ event on January 20. The award recognized MOPD's Hurricane Harvey response work.
The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetime.
Durring Hurricane Harvey and immediately after, Town and the MOPD staff worked to coordinate rescue efforts for people for disabilities. In the aftermath of the storm, MOPD reached out to Houstonians who needed replacement mobility devicces.
