Izzy Gomez, president of the non-profit oganization, Navidad en el Barrio, wrote to Mayor Sylvester Turner to express their gratitude to Mr. Willie Shankle, HPARD assistant superintendent, and the staff at Glenbrook Golf Course.

"Our charity recently held their annual golf fund raiser and it was such a pleasure to work with Mr. Shankle. Please extend this recognition to him and all his staff who went above and beyond to make our event a great success," Gomez wrote.

All monies raised are dedicated to the organization's Christmas program for 2,000 children at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Navidad En El Barrio (NEEB) is a 501(c)-3 non-profit charitable organization founded in 1987. Our mission is making life more pleasant for those less fortunate than others. Diversifying its interest to all age groups has enabled the organization to continue bringing smiles to those who might otherwise have lost all hope. NEEB has grown tremendously in its thirty years of existence, reaching over 63,000 children. Since its inception, NEEB has expanded its programs, and in 1994, a party for our senior citizen community was included. Additionally, every year, NEEB donates toys to other non-profit organizations and hosts a party for children of female inmates at a local county jail. A holiday party is also hosted for at risk teens where each child is treated to a meal, games and a $100 gift card. Navidad also provides 8th grade students the opportunity to apply for a college scholarship! NEEB donates canned goods to local pantries, and last but not least, delivers food, clothing and toys to needy families on Christmas Eve. Realizing that some of our children go hungry, with additional resources this year, NEEB provided every child a bag of beans and a bag of rice to take home. With support of volunteers, we will continue to bring smiles and happiness to families for many years to come.
