Amanda Lopez, a PhD student in the University of Houston Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, wrote to Mayor Sylvester Turner to thank Walid Samarneh, a managing engineer for the Public Works and Engineering Department, ffor answering questions and giving her a tour of a water treatment facility.

"I wanted to briefly mention my experience interacting with the City of Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering this morning. To give you some background I am a PhD student at the University of Houston, my graduate research will be focused on the anthropogenic impacts to the Galveston Bay watershed. As part of my project I needed to acquire information about City of Houston wastewater treatment facilities. The folks at the Houston Public Works, located at 10500 Bellaire Blvd., were very helpful. Managing engineer Walid Samarneh met with me, answered several questions, and even gave me a tour of the on-site wastewater treatment facility. Following my experience, I wanted to give this department a little "shoutout" as a thank you for their help."
