KABOOM! grant to fund playgrounds at five libraries

The Houston Public Library won the KaBOOM! Play Everywhere Challenge grant. HPL unveiled the playground equipment at the Carnegie Neighborhood Library and Center for Learning on June 26. 

KaBOOM! is the national non-profit dedicated to giving all kids – especially those living in poverty – the childhood they deserve through great, safe places to play. KaBOOM! inspires communities to make play the easy choice and works to drive the national discussion about the importance of PLAYces. KaBOOM! has collaborated with partners to build or restore more than 17,000 playspaces, engaged more than 1.5 million volunteers and served over 9 million kids. 

Additional kids playground equipment will also will be installed at 4 other neighborhood library locations:
- Shepard-Acres Neighborhood Library, 8501 West Montgomery
- Central Library, 500 McKinney
-Smith Neighborhood Library, 3624 Smith St.
- HPL Southwest Express Library (Located inside the Southwest Multi-Service Center, 6400 High Star
